About Matthew Bates

Matthew Bates was born in Portland, Oregon, but was raised in West Virginia in the Ohio River Valley.  From a very early age he enjoyed outdoor activities, including camping with his family, swimming or fishing in the Ohio River or just simply hiking in the woods near his home.  He also showed an artistic side during his childhood, learning differing mediums such as pencil drawing, watercolor, acrylic and oil painting.  Later in life when he was in the Air Force he was fortunate enough to be stationed in the Rocky Mountain region of the country where it afforded him ample opportunities to experience the outdoors of Wyoming and Colorado.  Currently, he lives in Fort Collins, Colorado, where he is working part-time for an environmental consulting company out of Denver conducting studies in recreation.

Matthew Bates Photography is a small business based in Fort Collins, Colorado providing quality outdoor photographs at a reasonable price.  Matthew took the majority of his photos during his travels throughout the west and continues to add to his portfolio.

I apologize for the amount of time it's taking to update this site, I guess that's the problems with being a starving artist and having two additional jobs.  Perhaps, someday soon this will be my primary focus.  Thanks for dropping by and please keep checking back as I do plan to update the photos on this site soon.
